Hello, and welcome back everyone!
I hope you had a restful and restorative winter break.
As you will see, our newsletter has a fresh new look. Many thanks to our new newsletter editor and department coordinator, Jennie Tang, for leading this redesign. Thank you as well to Yasmeen Abdallah, who has worked on the newsletter for the past several semesters. We are truly grateful for all the care and commitment Yasmeen brought to this work.
The spring semester is Thesis semester for our seniors and second-year MFA students, and below you will find full details about their upcoming shows, along with other exciting programming we have planned.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you back to campus, and I want to extend special thanks to our hardworking staff, technicians and student workers for all they have done to get our shops, studios, and classrooms ready for the semester.

The National Arts Club is pleased to announce the 2025 Will Barnet Student Show. The event honors Barnet’s career as an artist and dynamic teacher, as well as the Club’s ongoing commitment to arts education and community outreach. Showcasing the work of undergraduate students from prestigious New York area schools, the exhibition and honorariums have become highly recognized in the art world, and the level of talent continues to be fresh and original. Join us in welcoming and supporting these young artists. |

Lucia Bautista (BFA Drawing '26) is a draftsperson and object maker whose work explores themes of loneliness, home, internal connection, and personal identity deeply integrated with a reverence towards the natural world. Exploring micronature as subject matter, she engages with a deliberate questioning on what we consider life, and how we categorize the value of living things. In her work, nature acts as home, hiding place, and sanctuary. |

Kat Silk (BFA Painting '26) is a multidisciplinary artist working mainly in acrylic painting with a strong interest in printmaking, particularly lithography. In her work she is examining the vulnerable, embarrassing, and often funny parts of being human and seeking connection with other humans. She is currently in her senior year at Pratt Institute, studying to receive her BFA in painting. |

Laurel Sparks is a Brooklyn- and Hudson Valley- based painter whose work intersects queer craft, textile, occult, and abstract histories. Their paintings encode esoteric systems through patterned structures and glyphs, translating mystical inquiry into material form, while drawing on ornament and artifice rooted in queer and feminist countercultures.
Sparks received fellowships from MacDowell, Headlands Center for the Arts, Fire Island Artist Residency, the Elizabeth Foundation and Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, and the Elaine de Kooning Foundation. Recent solo exhibitions include Time Machines at Kate Werble Gallery, New York, and Settler Séance at Tinworks Art, Bozeman, MT. Sparks holds an MFA from Bard College and a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, at Tufts University, and is Associate Professor of Painting at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. |
